First Lady Melania Trump along with the U.S. President Donald Trump call for ABC to pull the Jimmy Kimmel Show following remarks he made prior to Saturday shooting during White House correspondent's dinner
ABC had previously pulled the show over remarks Kimmel made following killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk
Here we go again.
U.S. President Donald Trump is pressuring ABC into firing late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. This time the First Lady, Melania Trump, has entered the fray.
Kimmel said last Thursday, in a parody segment on the upcoming White House correspondents’ dinner, that Melania Trump “had a glow like an expectant widow.”
Trump and the first lady were rushed out of the dinner on Saturday after a shooting in the lobby of the Washington Hilton. A suspect identified as Cole Allen charged through a checkpoint and fired at Secret Service agents, wounding one, before he was subdued and arrested.
Television pundits were quick to point to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt's comments that "there will be some shots fired tonight" just prior to Saturday evening's incident.
Traders at the prediction market Polymarket don't see Kimmel being fired or leaving the show. They had those chances set at 10% as of Tuesday morning.
Kimmel, who frequently mocks President Donald Trump and his family, addressed the matter during Monday night's show, saying it “obviously was a joke about their age difference and the look of joy we see on her face every time they’re together.”
Kimmel continued: “It was a very light roast joke about the fact that he’s almost 80, and she’s younger than I am. It was not, by any stretch of the definition, a call to assassination, and they know that.”
Kimmel's show had been briefly pulled off the air by ABC back in September after backlash over comments Kimmel made related to the killing of conservative political activist and Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founderCharlie Kirk.
