Kamala Harris now holds a surprising lead over Donald Trump in Iowa...a dramatic turnaround in a state many Democrats and Republicans had largely dismissed as a sure win for Trump.

The latest Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll reveals that Vice President Harris is ahead of former President Trump by a margin of 47% to 44% among likely voters, and that is wreaking havoc among the election betting markets Saturday evening.

BetOnline.ag quickly shifted its odds following Ann Selzer's statement and the aforementioned poll. The election odds are as tight as they've been since October 12, and they will likely get even tighter.

"This is beginning to shape up like the 50-50 race we anticipated when the matchup was set in July," BetOnline political oddsmaker Paul Krishnamurty said. "The betting markets were following the large amount of money being wagered on Trump, but now we're seeing the smarter bettors come in and grab all the value that is left with Harris. I expect to see odds get close to a tossup by Election Day."

Three days ago, Trump was a 1/2 (-200) favorite in BetOnline's presidential market (Harris was a +180 underdog).

And just a week ago, the odds for the Democratic Party to take the popular vote were 2/3 (-150), but now they are 1/4 (-400).

Finally, the Pennsylvania odds have flipped completely. Earlier this week, the Republicans had 2/3 (-150) odds to take the Keystone State, but now the Democrats are 4/5 (-125) favorites.

Here are the current numbers:

2024 Presidential Election Winner

Donald Trump   -140

Kamala Harris   +120

2024 Presidential Election Popular Vote Winner

Donald Trump   +320

Kamala Harris   -400

Pennsylvania Election Result

Democrats        -125

Republicans      -105
