Trump Jail Time Odds Shorten as Former President Held in Contempt

Judge Juan Merchan on Tuesday morning announced that he has found former President Donald Trump in contempt on nine of 10 alleged violations of the gag order preventing him from making public statements about jurors, witnesses, prosecutors, court staff and members of their families.

Trump is required to remove a post appearing on his social media platform, Truth Social.  The order can be found here.

Trump must remove seven posts from his Truth Social account as well two posts from his campaign website by 2:15pm ET today, according to a decision made by Judge Merchan. The judge threatened to impose jail time should Trump continue to violate the gag order.

The nine posts were in violation of the gag order laid out by Merchan, which prevents Trump from speaking about potential witnesses, jurors, prosecutors, court staff and their family members if those statements interfere with the case.

Currenty, BetOnline is offering odds on Trump serving an jail time before 2025, mostly in connection with indictments however.  Specifically he must be convicted and serve jail time.  Judge Merchan could place him in jail, even overnight, prior to any conviction should he continue to fail in adhering to the gag order.

The odds of Trump serving an actual prison sentence were set at -4000 for the NO, but 10-1 on the YES.

Each violation carries a $1,000 fine, which means he must pay a total of $9,000. In his written order holding Trump in contempt, Merchan warned that further violations could result in "an incarceratory punishment."
