The Twitter "Too Much Football" Map Revealed by BetOnline
(Panama City) - September 23, 2022 - In a recent study compiled using geotagged Twitter data through a trends software program, West Virginia, Ohio and Nebraska need to take the weekend off from watching football.
For the latter, that shouldn’t be too hard considering the state the Cornhuskers program is currently in. And they aren’t playing this weekend so it should be very easy.
The study’s sampling from BetOnline.ag is based on the last 40 days, which encompasses the start of both the college and NFL football seasons. The tweets tracked included keywords, hashtags and phrases about significant others watching too much football.
For example, tweets that have the keyword "husband," "boyfriend," "partner," "wife," or "girlfriend," that also includes phrases like "watches too much football," "hates football season," "says I watch too much football," "watching too much football," "football ruining relationship," "too much time watching football," etc.
More than 200,000 tweets were tracked.
The totals were tallied for each state, and whichever state had the most associated tweets subsequently “won” that state.
As you can see from the map, the Midwest has the most complaints, which makes sense as it's arguably the most popular region for football fans. The least complaints come from the northeastern states.
The top 10 states watching "too much" football are as follows:
1. West Virginia
2. Ohio
3. Nebraska
4. Iowa
5. Texas
6. Kentucky
7. Indiana
8. Idaho
