San Francisco 49ers Futures Odds Following Christian McCaffrey Trade
The San Francisco 49ers shot up the 2023 Super Bowl odds board Thursday night after news broke that they had acquired Christian McCaffrey in a trade with the Carolina Panthers.
BetOnline moved the Niners' title odds from 16-1 to 14-1 initially, but quickly dropped them to 12-1, and now the odds are even lower.
"We were already pretty exposed in terms of futures liability with the Niners," Adam Burns, Sportsbook Manager at BetOnline.ag said. "It seems like McCaffrey will be a good fit for that Shanahan system, and the bets are coming in heavy across the board despite San Fran looking like a very average team so far this season."
McCaffrey should make an impact though it should be pointed out that he is prone to injury. 2019 was his last fully healthy season and he racked up 19 total touchdowns and nearly 2,400 yards from scrimmage. Additionally, McCaffrey had a remarkable 1,000 yards both rushing and receiving in the same year.
The 49ers are 3-3, and could easily find themselves at 3-4 after this Sunday where they are 1.5-point underdogs at home against Kansas City. McCaffrey is expected to be activated for that game.
The Niners are favored to take the NFC West and they jumped over Tampa Bay for the second spot in the NFC odds.
