Poker Director Matt Savage on Thursday night revealed a new NL tournament structure he's "worked on and wanted to do for many years".  And it is finally about to come to fruition.

"It will debut The Poker Room March 17th during the World Poker Tour (WPT) festival. With a $570 buy-in and $50,000 guaranteed," Savage explained.

Highlights of the new NL tournament structure will include:

  • Never below 50 BB average
  • No clock needed!
  • Registration and breaks at scheduled time not end of a level
  • Color changes happen quickly with all players at the table

"I’ve discussed this with many industry professionals and players and look forward to hearing your thoughts as well?"

Of course there will be some detractors.

"Late entry and rebuy will complicate the avg. stack calculations," one wrote on his Facebook wall.

"Not really," Savage responded.

The vast majority of responses were overwhelmingly positive.

"Looks great…. Go and patent it so you make millions."

"I love this and can’t wait to play."

"I like the concept and the level change are at the right level."

"Great idea Matt Savage! Love that it could gradually reduce the trend of tanking before pay jumps without the clock/ICM pressure. Can’t wait to try it out."

Savage is the Executive Tour Director at the World Poker Tour.
