This one is essentially a dead heat with the Mets at -107, Cards at -103 and total at 7.  You are likely to find St. Louis priced with shorter odds than New York at some books.

St. Louis’ Carlos Martinez (3-2, 4.72) vs. New York’s Bartolo Colon (6-2, 3.86)

Prior to last night, the UNDER in this series had gone 11-1-1 in the prior 13.  We didn’t feel 100 percent comfortable that the starting pitching would allow that trend to continue, and it did not.

After a strong start to the season, Martinez has permitted 7 to 9 runs over his last three outings, escaping with just two runs on Friday against the Tigers.

He’s only faced 14 at bats on the current Mets roster, allowing just two hits. He only allowed a single run in five innings vs. the Mets last year.

Colon had his worst start of the season last time, allowing a season high 6 runs, including two homers, and failing to make it into the 6th inning.  Prior to this Colon had always pitched at least six innings while permitting no more than four runs.

Colon has only allowed a single homerun to the current Cardinals roster with just over 100 at bats.  His last start against them in 2014 he went 8 innings, allowing just four hits and one run.

He’s probably had the most problems against Mark Reynolds, who is 6-for-17 against him with two doubles.

Matt Holliday can also prove dangerous going up against Colon, going 3-for-10 at bats with three RBIs.

Loving the UNDER 7 here and returning to that long standing series trend.
