Pittsburgh’s Francisco Liriano is 4-1 when starting against St. Louis with an ERA of 2.00 and a WHIP of 0.867 while Michael Wacha is 2-0 when starting against Pittsburgh with an ERA of 0.63 and a WHIP of 0.488.
Wacha is looking for his first win since April 13 and it’s not for lack of trying. He ranks near the top of the league in strikeouts with 50 in 42 1/3 innings covering seven games. Wacha is not getting the proper run support however. This is a guy that nearly shut out Pittsburgh the last time he pitched against them in 2013.
Then we have Liriano who is yet to get a win this season. He failed to pitch into the 4th inning of his last two outings.
