Marlins vs. Nationals Series Betting Picks, DFS Plays – May 4 – 6
Gambling911.com has your Marlins vs. Nationals series betting picks and daily fantasy sports plays for May 4 through 6.
The Series Overall: Miami just swept the Nationals at home with two games totaling 8 and the other going under that number. Eight of the Marlins last eleven games during the 2014 regular season were against Washington and they lost all but one of those. Clearly the tide appears to be turning here. The only win by Miami was in a game that featured 0-1 Taylor Hill. That was also the only game that did not go UNDER 8.5. During that stretch, the UNDER 5.5 was 6-2. The UNDER 8.5 would be 10-1 so if a total of 8 or higher comes in, certainly lean towards the UNDER.
Miami has won 9 of their last 11 games overall following a sluggish start while Washington has gone 5-for-6 in recent games. As such, both ball clubs come into this game relatively hot.
May 4 - The Starting Pitchers: David Phelps vs. Jordan Zimmerman
Phelps has allowed 0 and 2 runs in his last two starts pitching 6 and 7 innings, respectively. Versus the Mets in his last start, Phelps allowed just two runs on seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts in six-plus innings Tuesday against the Mets. (Tue Apr 28). There is little fantasy value in Phelps or his opposition for this particular game.
Zimmerman has not permitted more than two runs in his last four starts against Miami dating back to July 28 including a 9 inning shutout on September 9 at home.
He made it through 7 innings for the first time in his last start against Atlanta (a 13-4 win). He also gave up 8 hits and four runs.
While there is some uncertainty as to how Phelps will perform in the starting rotation for Miami over the long haul, Zimmerman’s past history against the Marlins does give this matchup an UNDER edge even if listed at 7.5.
May 4 – DFS Picks: Jordan Zimmerman can be considered. He will cost you roughly 8.8K. Martin Prado has had some success against Zimmerman though he would not be among our first options on Monday.
May 5 - The Starting Pitchers: *Mat Latos vs. Stephen Strasburg
Latos, while winless on the season, has not permitted more than three runs or six hits in his last four starts. The team lists Latos as day-to-day, but his status for his next scheduled start is uncertain.
Washington ace Strasburg is 2-2 on the season. One of those losses was to Miami, which scored 4 runs off of the Nationals starter. He allowed zero runs against the Marlins in his two previous starts to end last season. Not only would he and the Nationals get the edge in this game, so too would the UNDER even if listed at 6.5.
May 5 – DFS Picks: Stephen Strasburg but only if the price is right. Marcell Osuna of the Marlins has been on fire of late and has had solid success against Strasburg (7-for-16 at bats with 5 RBIs and a homer) in the past, so do not overlook him on your roster this day.
May 6 - The Starting Pitchers: Marlins Tom Koehler vs. Nationals Max Scherzer
Koehler had given up 5 or more hits in his first four starts before allowing four in his last start, pitching just five innings. He allowed zero runs against Washington a few days back despite yielding six hits. He allowed two runs in his last game of 2014 versus the Nationals and zero runs earlier in the year.
Scherzer has pitched seven or more innings in three of his last four while allowing no more than 2 runs in each of his last four starts. Four of the last five games he has started in have resulted in seven or fewer runs being scored.
May 6 – DFS Picks: Wilson Ramos is 3-for-7 against Koehler and as hot as they come right now, batting over .450 in the past seven days. Denard Span is 8-for-3 vs. Koehler with one RBI. Jayson Werth has two homers against Koehler and is 4-for-13 but has been in a slump of late.
Dee Gordon has enjoyed success against Scherzer, going 4-for-11 with a homerun and double. Max Scherzer also should be considered for Wednesday's roster spot.
