Orioles vs. Yankees Series Betting Pick – May 9: Wei-Yin Chen Hungry for First Win
Priced at just +115 at Sportsbook, Baltimore makes for an excellent pick against the New York Yankees today. We also like the OVER 8.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles LH Wei-Yin Chen (0-1, 2.83 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Chase Whitley (1-0, 0.75)
Chen is winless thus far this season but it’s not because he hasn’t pitched well. The Orioles starter allowed a total of nine earned runs in his five starts, including six innings of two-run ball in a no-decision last time out.
Chen did permit the most runs in his last start (7) against Tampa Bay. Prior to this he allowed no more than 4 hits in his first four starts this season.
He has managed to make it beyond the 6th inning only once this year with four of five games he’s started in going OVER the current total of 8.
Four of the last five games in this series played at New York have gone OVER the current total.
Whitley was knocked around in three appearances (one start) versus Baltimore last year, giving up nine runs and 13 hits over 5 2/3 innings. He has allowed six hits in each of his first two starts this season.
For fantasy players, Jacoby Ellsbury has hit 7-for-16 against Chen with one double. He is priced just above $4000 coming into today’s game and that price tag may be a bit steep.
Brett Gardner probably presents the biggest threat against Chen with five RBIs in 15 at bats.
