2009 Super Bowl Betting Odds Steady at Steelers -7

While most online sportsbooks featured Super Bowl betting odds at Pittsburgh Steelers -7, there were a few lone exceptions. Bookmaker.com had the Steelers at -6 1/2, obviously the place to bet if you like Pittsburgh and these odds were likely to change if not locked in immediately.

"What's great about this is you can win your 2009 Super Bowl bet should the Steelers win by a touchdown," explains Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.

For those books that have the line set at -7, a touchdown win would result in a push.  In other words, the bet is neither won nor lost.

Sports bettors, reacting to the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, wagered more heavily this year on Super Bowl success for big underdogs such as the Cardinals, oddsmakers told Bloomberg News Monday.

"That's just trying to hit the home run to try to help through this economic downturn, kind of buying a lottery ticket on sports."

The best odds were those on Arizona early on to win the 2009 Super Bowl.  The Cardinals would pay as high as 50/1 odds or $5000 for every $100 bet.  Pittsburgh was listed with single digit odds of winning the 2009 Super Bowl throughout much of the last 12 months.
