There is plenty to bet on in the world of Motor Sports this Sunday with the Monaco Grand Prix taking place in Europe and the Indianapolis 500 in the US. Gamblers can bet on a particular driver beating another driver, commonly referred to as Head to Head driver matchups wagering.
Head to Head Betting in NASCAR, Formula 1 Racing
An example of head-to-head betting would be if you happen to like Helio Castroneves. Oddsmakers will typically pit a driver against another driver based on the level of competition. Thus, Helio Castroneves had the second shortest odds of winning the 2017 Indy 500 at 10-1 compared to the odds on favorite Scott Dixon at 5-1. In a head-to-head matchup between the two drivers, Dixon was priced as the -170 favorite while Castroneves would pay out $14 for every $10 bet.
According to oddsmakers, Castroneves is more likely to beat Juan Pablo Montoya, who had the third shortest odds of winning the 2017 Indianapolis 500 race at 11-1 odds.
You will notice that Montoya’s price is only two dollars off from Castroneves and, as such, Castroneves is only a -120 favorite here. The risk is much lower than if you were to bet Dixon against him.
