Cat-Ching for Tiger Woods Bettors? Bookies Cat And Mouse Game
The online bookmakers are taking plenty of betting action on Tiger Woods to win this week’s 2010 PGA Championship. The cheese in the trap is a delicious price of 12/1 odds or potential reward of $120 for every $10 bet at online gambling establishments the likes of betED.com (see website here).
As Gambling911.com reported, 12/1 odds is the longest price we have ever seen Tiger Woods listed at coming into a major golf tournament. It is also the first time since the online sportsbook came into existence that Woods is not the favorite.
USA TODAY sports analyst Danny Sheridan said the odds on Woods should be even higher, based on his play. "But if the oddsmakers offered fair or huge odds on Woods, most people would bet on him and they don't like to take that risk," he said.
“You never want to give anything away on Tiger,” Mike Seba, a senior oddsmaker at Las Vegas Sports Consultants, said in a telephone interview with Bloomberg News. “He probably should be 20-1 but you can’t make him that. Too many people will bet him. This guy, at any time, can jump up and win.”
"We wanted to see if this would attract bettors. If they lay off," Hilton's Jeff Sherman said over the phone Monday, "you could see him drop to 15-1."
Most of the online bookmakers had Tiger Woods at 10-1 on Sunday.
“12-1 at betED.com is a steal,” suggests Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.
