A bit of a long shot ended up winning the 2011 Indy 500.  Dan Wheldon raced to victory with 12/1 odds or a payout of $1200 on every $100 bet at Bookmaker Sunday

Favorites to win this year’s Indianapolis 500 included the likes of Dario Franchitti at 4/1 odds and Scott Dixon, also at 4/1 odds.

The British-born Wheldon won after rookie J.R. Hildebrand crashed on the final lap.  Hildebrand was leading up to that point.  A Hildebrand win would have provided the Indianapolis with a rare rookie victory.

This is Wheldon’s second Indy win.
