FedEx St. Jude Classic

The FedEx St. Jude Classic takes place each June on the PGA Tour in Memphis, Tennessee. This 2016 PGA Tour event gets underway on June 9th and concludes on June 12th. The event goes back to 1958 when it was known as the Memphis Open and it currently takes place at the TPC Southwind. It was previously played at Colonial Country Club until 1989 when it moved to TPC Southwind. The tournament got Federal Express as their title sponsor in 1989. A total of five golfers have won the St. Jude Classic more than once including Dave Hill who holds the all-time record with four wins. The defending champion is Fabian Gomez.

Tournament Notes

The FedEx St. Jude Classic is known for its affiliation with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In 1969 it was actor Danny Thomas lending his name to the event. The tournament was known as the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic for quite a while. Federal Express picked up the mantle as title sponsor in 1986 and increased the prize pool for many years. The Stanford Financial Group took over as sponsor in 2007 but that didn’t last as FedEx took over sponsorship again in 2011 and is the current title sponsor.
