Final Four: Most Bets On Connecticut
The UConn Huskies were not the favorites to win the 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship early on, but sports bettors overwhelmingly believe that Connecticut will easily cover the -4 spread versus Michigan State Saturday.
"Nearly 85 percent of the action is going UConn's way in this game," observed Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com. "The money line action was relatively split."
Of the two games being played over the weekend, Connecticut was the most bet on team by a long shot.
"Villanova versus North Carolina was getting nearly even action with the Tar Heels a -7 favorite," said Shapiro. "Villanova was actually getting about 60 percent of the money line action to win outright though."
On the money line, Villanova would pay out nearly $270 for every $100 bet at online gambling establishments like BetUS.com.
It was a similar story at the Las Vegas sportsbooks.
"By looking at the early ticket count, I think the general public is focusing in and targeting UConn and Villanova," Las Vegas Hilton sports book director Jay Kornegay said. "The entire tournament has been a love affair with the Big East, and this Final Four is no different."
