Free NFL Picks - 2008 Week 3
Frank Doyle of Sports Interaction is back with his 2008 Week 3 free NFL picks including information related to betting trends at Canada's first online sports book.
The NFL is a quarterback league. People were picking the Jets over the Patriots last week because of what they viewed as a clear talent disparity at quarterback, but the disparity was by no means as significant as some had projected. The talent gap did manifest in the Metrodome, when the Vikings shoulda woulda coulda beaten Indianapolis, but Peyton Manning imposed his will on the game in a way that Tarvaris Jackson could not.
Now Indianapolis is back at home in the Colts' new stadium but the early sharpie action is all for the Jaguars at +5 with Sports Interaction. The idea clearly is the Colts are vulnerable to the run, the Jags are very, very badly in need of a win and they'll send all their horses between the tackles and grind down the Colts that way. Personally, I don't buy it. I think Peyton Manning is getting stronger with every game he plays, and I see him imposing himself on the game more than David Garrard. Indy -5 is the pick here.
I can't see Minnesota's troubles getting any better when the Panthers arrive at the Metrodome I'm afraid. The Vikings had a chance to sign a veteran quarterback, and the sort of plays they made for Favre when he was on the market suggests it was on their agenda, but they decided not to in the end. The Viking defense is a throwback to their seventies Purple People Eater glory but when you can't produce in the red zone on offense you have a problem. Minnesota's problems will continue on Sunday - Carolina +3 with Sports Interaction is the pick here.
I think everybody's really looking forward to the battle of Pennsylvania when Pittsburgh visits the Eagles. The Steelers have admitted that Ben Roethlisberger's shoulder is injured, but they're being quite coy about how much. If Roethlisberger's ability to go long is limited I think you have to think Eagles -3 with Sports Interaction on this one. No better way to cheer themselves up after the Monday Night loss to Dallas.
