PGA National Course – Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Golfers to Watch
Rory McIlroy (12/1): McIlroy cruised to a victory at the Honda Classic last March, part of his early season dominance of the PGA Tour. He could have some rust to shake off this year. He’s made one start worldwide, a missed cut at Abu Dhabi in January. Still, the defending champ enters this week as one of the favorites to win.
Justin Rose (15/1): Rose has gone top five in each of his past two starts at PGA National, finishing alone in third in 2010 and T5 last March. He’s made just two starts this year, one being his runner-up week at Abu Dhabi, and Rose finished alone in second place in his last U.S. start, at the Tour Championship.
Tiger Woods (7/1): A year ago, Woods destroyed PGA National on Sunday, carding a 62 (though still falling two strokes short of Rory McIlroy). Woods won his only 2013 stroke-play start in the U.S., at Torrey Pines, a course where he’s historically dominated. If he can find his groove early this week, there’s no reason he can’t run away with this tournament.
Lee Westwood (25/1): Westwood has gone top-10 in two of his past three starts at PGA National, going T9 in 2010 and a solo 4th-place finish last year, powered by a final-round 63. He started well, only to fade in his two stroke-play starts this year (a T46 at Pebble Beach and a T21 at the Northern Trust), so it could just be a matter of stringing four strong rounds together.
Jason Day (30/1): The Aussie has started fast, going top-10 in two of his three stroke-play starts to go along with a third-place finish at last week’s Accenture Match Play. His only start at the Honda Classic was a missed cut in 2008 (as a 20-year-old), but he’ll be a nice value pick considering how well he’s hitting it entering this week.
