Indianapolis Colts Odds to Win the 2009 Super Bowl
The Indianapolis Colts opened the 2008 regular season with 8/1 odds of winning the 2009 Super Bowl. Those odds dropped into the single digits following a rough start. But heading into the Playoffs, the Indianapolis Colts are the hottest team in the league having won 9 straight.
The Colts odds of winning the 2009 Super Bowl heading into Week 17 were at +545 for a $545 payout on every $100 bet. With their 9th win against Tennessee in what was otherwise a meaningless game, the Colts odds were likely to be closer to 5/1 once updated Monday.
"This is excellent value all things considered," commented Don Shapiro, sports columnist for the Gambling911.com website. "The Colts are playing better than the favored Giants and Titans right now."
The Colts recorded their first shut out since Dec. 14, 1997 against the Miami Dolphins.
Peyton Manning played the first series of Sunday's game and went 7-for-7 (Comp-Att) before being removed, giving him 3,839 completions for his career. That ties Drew Bledsoe for the fifth most completions in NFL history.
"We wanted to play well and get off to a fast start with our first unit, and we did that," coach Tony Dungy said. "I'm proud of our guys and the way they played. I like where we are, and I think we'll be ready next week."
Now the Colts head West where it appeared they would be playing the San Diego Chargers for a first-round playoff game next week against the AFC West champs. Indy is seeded fifth and could not improve its playoff position Sunday.
Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer believes that Peyton Manning should be named league MVP. Why?
"Eight weeks into the season, the Indianapolis Colts were 3-4 and Peyton Manning ranked 22d in the league with a 79.0 passer rating, one spot ahead of Detroit's Dan Orlovsky. Manning and the Colts appeared to be a team on the decline.
"In the last eight weeks, Manning has completed 71.4 percent of his passes (going 202 for 283), throwing for 2,153 yards and 16 touchdowns with just three interceptions. The Colts have won eight in a row and appear to be the AFC's most dangerous team heading into the playoffs."
