OAKLAND PARK, Fla (Gambling911.com) - This 1 pm EDT Little League World Series match between Iowa and New Jersey promises to be a good one.
New Jersey comes into today's match as a big -250 favorite while Iowa will pay out close to $200 for every $100 bet.
Iowa vs. New Jersey — Sunday, August 23
1:00 p.m. ET — Howard J. Lamade Stadium
Iowa: Davenport Northwest Little League — Davenport, Iowa
New Jersey: Bayonne Central Little League — Bayonne, New Jersey
Situation: U.S. winners bracket. The winner advances to play the Nevada-Washington winner on Wednesday; the loser remains alive but drops into the elimination side.
Mason Rincon is the 5-foot-10 pitcher/CF/infielder/catcher, who was spectacular in New Jersey's opener against Massachusetts. Rincon pitched 4⅓ innings, allowed two hits and struck out eight, then came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and hit a walk-off home run to win the game 2-1.
Then against Pennsylvania on Friday, Rincon homered again in New Jersey's 3-1 victory.
Cooper Thissen is a 5-foot-8 left-handed pitcher/catcher/shortstop/center fielder, making him one of Davenport's most versatile players.
And his LLWS debut was extraordinary.
Iowa beat California 1-0, with Thissen and California's Noah Kirk combining for 28 strikeouts in one of the best pitching duels of the tournament.
Thissen struck out 13 hitters in 4⅔ innings.
Betting on this year's Little League World Series is not without its controversy.
The Little League World Series issued the following statement to Gambling911.com:
"Little League International stands by its statement first issued last year that there is no place for betting on Little League games and players or any youth sports competition. Little League is a trusted place where children are learning the fundamentals of the games and all the important life lessons that come with having fun, celebrating teamwork, and playing with integrity, and no one should be exploiting the success and failures of children playing the game they love for their own personal gain."
"We're not here to say whether gambling on 10-, 11- and 12-year-olds is right or wrong, that's up for you to decide (and possibly write about), we're just delivering the information," BetOnline Brand Manager Dave Mason tells Gambling911.com.
