With so many people owning an iPod or a Blackberry, the impact over in-play Super Bowl betting was huge compared to last year.

"Last year you would have people run to their computers at half time," explained Payton O'Brien, Senior Editor of Gambling911.com.  "This year people were able to research stats after every play, bet where live wagering is available and immediately start placing their half time bets after that breath taking second quarter."

Traffic numbers recorded by Gambling911.com were unprecedented during the game and only slightly off from last year coming into it.

"I would say we were off our numbers by about 5 percent from last year but that has more to do with the teams that were playing compared to this year's game than anything involving the economy," O'Brien said.   "And the amount of activity during the game really ended up carrying things."

While live betting is offered at some online sportsbooks like BetUS.com, the real action comes just before halftime when the oddsmakers work tireless to put up odds on the final two quarters of the game.

iPods and Blackberries appear to have played a pivotal role in the ongoing betting inquiries taking place all during the 2009 Super Bowl.

Some of the most hardcore gamblers were in attendance at the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay.  Unlike in past years, those watching the game from the stadium in Tampa could bet on the game via their iPhones and Blackberries.  Besides the folks here, who else would drag their laptops to the Super Bowl?

Several companies were brought in to deliver massive amounts of equipment to handle the extraordinary increase of cellular and data traffic.
