Majority of North America Wants an Oilers Title, But it’s Close According to BetOnline
The map below is based on geotagged X data from Sunday evening to now (when the matchup was set) tracking official fan hashtags in every state and the 10 Canadian provinces. For example #LetsGoOilers (Oilers) and #TimeToHunt (Panthers). Over 110,000 tweets were tracked and is courtesy of our friends at BetOnline.
As you can see from the map, it almost seems to be a "North" vs. "South" type of setup with all of Canada and much of the upper US rooting for the Oilers, while the southern US is rooting for the Panthers.
Edmonton has not won a Stanley Cup since 1990, and the Panthers have never won one. In addition, there is added interest in Edmonton (especially up north) as Canada has not won a Stanley Cup in 30 years (this is probably the only reason why Ontario, which is Toronto Maple Leafs territory, is rooting for the Oilers.
