Michigan State vs. Penn State College Football Betting
Michigan State vs. Penn State represents the 5th most active game among the college football betting crowd. The line here was Nittany Lions -15 ½ at BetUS.com
The home team has won 8 of the last 10 in this series. Penn State has won 3 of the last 4 but lost their last game against Michigan State by a mere 4 points.
The Spartans haven't won at Penn State since 1965, but they're thinking this could be the year.
That confidence might have been born out of their 35-31 comeback win last season, in which they overcame a 24-7 deficit in the third quarter.
"You do think back to times when you've had success and it helps build confidence," said quarterback Brian Hoyer who threw four touchdown passes in that game, three in the second half. "We just want to do that from the start this year."
Sam Ross Jr. of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review writes: "Lurking beneath the surface is the longshot hope that a Penn State win, and a series of unlikely outcomes elsewhere, could get the Lions back into the national championship picture.
"There also is a revenge aspect after the way the Lions lost last season at Michigan State, blowing a 17-point third-quarter lead in the agonizing punctuation to a disappointing season, albeit a winning one."
"That was a sickening game," senior defensive end Josh Gaines said. "I feel like we (defensive linemen) lost that game and we talk about it all the time. It hurts still thinking about it. We lost focus. We thought we had it wrapped up."
While this game can go either way with Penn State potentially covering that 15 ½ points, they are playing a team that has lost only 2 games the entire season so this spread may be a bit steep in our humble opinion.
Couple that with the fact that the Nittany Lions are only 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 conference games, and this lends further credence that Michigan State should be able to cover here. The Spartans are after all 7-2 ATS against teams with a winning record.
