Odds to Win The Open Championship 2011

Odds to win The Open Championship 2011 the night prior to the start of the four-day event had Rory McIlroy still the easy favorite at around 8/1 odds across the board.

Betting on The Open Championship 2011 will be available before and after each day's play with odds updated.  Once a gambler places his or her bet on the Championship, that price is locked in.

Whether McIlroy is actually a good bet to win the Open Championship remains to be seen.  Some say he’ll have a tough time at Royal St. George’s.  Even his own manager has his doubts.

Chubby Chandler, who manages McIlroy, said he won’t be picking the Irish native to win this tournament.

"I would be amazed if he doesn't arrive at the course in peak form.  He knows how to prepare for the big occasions and he has a great chance. People keep reminding me that he's had five top three finishes in five years, which proves his consistency, but in two of them he didn't have a realistic hope."

Chandler said the course simply doesn’t suit his client.

The next shortest odds of winning The Open Championship 2011 had Lee Westwood and Luke Donald both at 11/1 odds.

Westwood insists he has the patience to master Royal St. George’s.

“(There are) a couple of fairways out there which you can get bad breaks,” Westwood said. “At some point during the week, you’re going to need patience — it’s going to be tested. But I’ve got plenty of that.

“It’s mentally frustrating out there. I think that’s why people either like or dislike it. I like the golf course ... it makes you think constantly and adapt to the situation.”

Some of the contenders at this year’s Open Championship have the potential of paying out up to $10,000 on a $100 bet (1000/1 odds), making golf betting one of the most lucrative for sports bettors.
