Oilers vs. Panthers Prop Bets Game 1

It's the Edmonton Oilers facing off against the Florida Panthers in Game 1 of the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Finals beginning Saturday June 7.

For the second straight year, the Florida Panthers have a chance at hockey’s greatest prize. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 23 shots, Sam Bennett and Vladimir Tarasenko scored, and the Florida Panthers are headed to the Stanley Cup Final once again after beating the New York Rangers 2-1 on Saturday night.

“We touched it last year and it didn’t work for us,” Bennett said of ignoring the trophy, the one presented to the Eastern Conference champions. “So, we thought we’d try something different this year.”

The Panthers — who lost the Cup final to Vegas last year — won the East title series in six games.  

Florida will play for the Stanley Cup for the third time. The Panthers were swept by Colorado in 1996 and lost 4-1 to Vegas last season. It’s also the third time in the final for Panthers coach Paul Maurice, who lost with Carolina in 2002 and then with Florida last year.

Edmonton wrapped up the Western Conference on Sunday night, eliminating the Dallas Stars with a 2-1 victory to end that series in six games. Florida won the Eastern Conference on Saturday night, topping the New York Rangers 2-1 to also finish off a six-game series.

“Unbelievable,” Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins said in a televised on-ice interview Sunday night, as fans in Edmonton celebrated the clincher over Dallas. “Best fans in the league. It’s incredible to do it, to get to the next level in front of these fans. Obviously, we’ve got a ton of work to do. We’re playing a good team.”

The Oilers have won five Stanley Cups. But all five came between 1984 and 1990. The Panthers didn't even join the NHL as an expansion franchise until 1993.
