Quail Hollow Championship Betting Odds

After relatively weak fields at the tournaments immediately after the Masters, the big guns are out in force this weekend at Charlotte, NC, for the Quail Hollow Championship and Sports Interaction has all your betting odds on this event to compliment all the Kentucky Derby wagering frenzy.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are both in the field, as is Geoff Ogilvy, reigning Champion Anthony Kim, Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, Trevor Immelman and Masters Champion Angel Cabrara, who is a tempting +7500 with Sports Interaction to win back to back PGA tournaments. Tempting, but perhaps not advised.

Sports Interaction has priced Tiger at +300, and that's relatively big, for him - we priced him at +185 or so for the Masters. +300 is a pretty good price for Tiger. His level of expertise is such that when he brings his A game he's only playing against history. No-one else competes on his plane.

One of the many joys of the Masters this year was the duel that broke out on Sunday when Phil Mickelson and Tiger suddenly took off on their round. They've been perceived as the great rivals in golf of this decade, but there's never really been a tournament where they've gone mano a mano, like Watson and Nicklaus did in the British Open in 1977. Interestingly, Mickelson finished that final round at Augusta one shot better than Tiger - anybody that wants to take that as a portent that Phil has turned a psychological corner can back him this weekend at +900 with Sports Interaction.

Phil Mickelson is not the recommendation of this column however. In betting any tournament in which Tiger is competing you have to either bet Tiger hard or else find a nice fat price on someone else. +900 isn't quite big enough on Phil for my tastes.

Geoff Ogilvy is this column's pick for a weekend golf investment. Ogilvy is $35,947 ahead of Mickelson on the money list but Ogilvy is returns eleven bucks more on every dollar than Phil if Ogilvy wins at Charlotte this weekend. That's because the casual golf bettor has heard of Mickelson but doesn't know Geoff Ogilvy from Alex Ovechkin.

Ogilvy was a dark horse prospect at Augusta but a poor Thursday doomed him. Nobody wins a Masters on Thursday but lots of people have lost them, and Ogilvy won't be the last to join their serried ranks. If Tiger wins nobody can ever claim to be surprised, but +2000 with Sports Interaction each way on the current PGA Tour money leader to the win the Quail Hollow Championship is just too good to miss. Geoff Ogilvy is the bet of the week.
