Spain v. South Africa Confederations Cup Betting Odds

Spain v. South Africa Confederations Cup betting odds were available at BetUS.com for those living in the U.S. and at Sportingbet.com for those outside the States.  This game was receiving plenty of action (most of which was going towards Spain) in the U.S. mainly as a result of Team USA playing in the 2009 Confederations Cup final against Brazil.

Spain v. South Africa Confederations Cup betting odds offered the promise of a US$450 payout on South Africa if they were to win.  A $180 bet to win $100 was needed for the favorite Spain (that $180 is paid back in addition to the $100 winnings should Spain walk off victorious).

It should be noted that Sportingbet.com is offering a payout of $525 for every $100 bet on South Africa should they win (better odds than William Hill we might add).  Sportingbet does accept customers from South Africa.

Some important facts about this matchup from the BBC:

The two sides have met only twice before. Spain won 3-2 during the group stage of the 2002 World Cup. Two goals from Raul and a strike from ex-Middlesbrough midfielder Gaizka Mendieta won the game for Spain. Benni McCarthy and Lucas Radebe replied for South Africa.

Spain's 2-0 defeat to the USA was the first time they had conceded two goals since a 3-2 friendly win over Greece, in August 2007.

Spain have not lost to African opposition since a 3-2 defeat to Nigeria in the group stage of the 1998 World Cup finals.

South Africa have scored in just one of their four Confederations Cup matches so far, Bernard Parker scoring both goals in a 2-0 win over New Zealand.
