Rarely before this year have we seen Tiger Woods open with longer than 3/1 odds in a major golf event.  Following a November scandal that seems to have had a negative effect on Woods performance, the world’s number one had been delegated to 6/1 odds coming into recent events.

At this week’s US PGA Tournament, Tiger Woods is a shocking 10/1 long shot at Sportsbetting.com (see website here)

“We have not seen Woods in this position coming into a tournament,” notes Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.

In fact, it is rare to see Woods odds slashed into double digits halfway through a major gold tournament even when playing poorly.

The main reason for Woods long odds comes as a result of his shooting a 77 at the Bridgestone Invitational, capping a stunning week that saw him shoot 18-over par for four rounds and finish in a tie for 78th in an 80-player field.  This concluded his worst event as a professional golfer.

"Shooting 18-over par is not fun,'' Woods said afterward. "I don't see how it can be fun shooting 18 over, especially since my handicap is supposed to be zero. ... It's tough. Yeah, it's tough.''

Hunter Mahan won the event, running off five birdies on the front nine to make up a four-shot deficit.

Phil Mickelson is the 9/1 favoriteat the 2010 PGA Tournament this week.

Jon Rahm was going for his third major win at the 107th PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. He played great, proving he’s ready to be a top golfer again. After some ups and downs since joining LIV Golf in late 2023, Rahm shot an impressive 4-under 67 in the third round on Saturday. This strong round put him tied for fifth place, just five shots behind the leader, Scottie Scheffler.
