Taylor Swift Saves Dave Portnoy? Ex-Trooper Who Tipped Off Gambling Biz Sentenced
Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy retired from gambling and quickly came out of retirement the next day.
“I was so confident the Bills would beat the Cowboys I switched my bet to Dallas only to watch the same old Cowboys. Dak sucks. Stupid Penalties. Dumb coaching,” Portnoy said on X. “They suck. Kick them outta the league.”
The Bills were a slight favorite over the Cowboys on Sunday and Buffalo ended up winning 31-10.
“So it’s the same old Cowboys. Got it. I hate myself,” Portnoy posted on X after James Cook's touchdown catch early in the second quarter to put the Bills ahead, 14-0.
Recording artist Taylor Swift, who is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelse, was later seen in a video drinking High Noon in a video in her suite for the Chiefs-Patriots game. High Noon is a vodka-seltzer drink promoted by Barstool Sports.
“I had worst day ever gambling today. Lost my shirt. Made up for it by @taylorswift13 drinking @nooners when the cameras aren’t on,” he posted on X.
Swift was named Time's Person of the Year.
Ex-State Trooper Sentenced to Probation for Tipping Off Gambling Probe Target
ROCHESTER, NY (Gambling911.com) - State Police Sgt. Thomas Loewke was sentenced to two years probation Monday for tipping off an illegal gambling business in regard to an investigation.
"A cop does not tip off a bad guy that 'we're coming after you,'" U.S. District Judge David Larimer told Loewke in court Monday.
He got off easy as the guidelines proposed a sentence of eight to 14 months.
Federal prosecutors wanted a prison sentence for the 52-year-old former trooper.
When Loewke alerted the target of the investigation, Louis Ferrari II, one police officer was working undercover and others were conducting surveillance, Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan McGuire said in court.
Seven individuals were charged in January for their role in running the business. It is alleged to have taken in millions of dollars over a multi-year period as part of a 48-page complaint.
Prosecutors claim the defendants operated illegal poker games inside Suite B at 565 Blossom Road and an illegal online sports betting operation through the website sport700.com.
