Tennessee Vols Payout Odds to Win the 2023 CFP Championship After Beating Alabama 16-1
You would think the Tennessee Vols would be getting a lot more love following their shock win over the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday. But the oddsmakers have updated the numbers and the Vols still pay out $1600 for every $100 bet should they win the 2023 College Football Playoff Championship. Their odds were the 6th shortest in college football.
In fact, Alabama held onto the three spot just under Georgia and Ohio State. Clemson and Michigan had shorter odds than Tennessee.
The Vols did jump to No. 3 in the AP Poll on Sunday. They also moved up from 33-1 odds to win the Championship.
Last week, Ohio State was the favorite (2-1 odds), Georgia was second at +225 and Bama was a close third at +250.
Chase McGrath made a 40-yard field goal as time expired to give Tennessee the 52-49 victory. Hendon Hooker drove the Vols 45 yards in 18 seconds to set up the winner.
“This is college football at its absolute best,” Vols coach Josh Heupel said. “We were the best team on the field tonight. That's all we can control.”
“We didn't answer the bell today,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said. “We did too many things to help (Tennessee).”
With the win Tennessee stays undefeated and has only failed to cover once this season.
The Volunteers get a break next week playing UT Martin. The line on that game was expected to be around -38.
What looms ahead is scary to be sure after next week.
On October 29, Tennessee will likely be an -11.5 home favorite versus a Kentucky team that owned a 5-2 record coming into Week 8.
Then the Vols are a dog again playing in Georgia. They will likely come in as the +7 underdog in that one.
Tennessee then closes out the season with winable games against Missouri, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. They will be a favorite in each of those.
Another dramatic shift in the odds had USC going from 20-1 to 75-1 after losing to Utah in Week 7.
