A common theme with Utah is their tough time on the road, especially against teams with winning records.  Coming into January 6, the Jazz had lost by 7 or more points in all 13 games against teams with winning records on the road.

Philadelphia has not covered against Utah at home within a 10 point spread in their last four meetings, however, the Jazz have struggled on the road and are 3-9 Against The Spread vs. teams with winning records with a spread above the 10.

The Sixers as a -10 or greater favorite are 6-2 Against The Spread.

Winners and Whiners: "Both teams are playing the second game of back-to-back situations here. Utah is playing their third game in four nights after playing overtime against the Pistons in Salt Lake City Wednesday and then in Boston Friday before heading here to Philadelphia. While the 76ers are playing the second game of a back-to-back here, they had two days off ahead of Friday’s game and were at home for that one, so they have no travel to speak of over the last several days.

One word of caution here: Joel Embiid (knee) is questionable for Saturday's game against the Utah Jazz.

We may have to throw out that Utah Jazz road implosion trend that's been so profitable for gamblers leading up to late December.

Throughout much of the first several weeks of this season's NBA, Utah had won just one game on the road (to a pretty bad team) and lost by no less than 8 points in eight of their last nine leading up to November 30.

Playing in New Orleans December 28, the Jazz had won four of their last six road games and did what even the best have a tough time accomplishing, won three in a four-game road stand with New Orleans marking Game 5 of this trip.

The Pelicans burned us previously with their ability to let teams make up near 20 point deficits in the second half.

But here's the deal.  The first game in Cleveland was lost by 8 points.  The Cavaliers in that one were -3.5 favorites.  Two of the wins were versus perhaps the two worst teams in the NBA, San Antonio and Detroit.  Another win in Toronto had us baffled though we shied away from backing the Raptors as they simply haven't played up to snuff.

The Jazz continues to be a team one must consider betting against when playing on the road.

We previously discussed how the Jazz had lost on the road by 8 or more points in all but one game and since that time (November 29), Utah is 2-6 Against The Spread in their last eight road games.  They beat two really bad teams - Portland and Detroit - on the road.

The Jazz had the 6th longest odds with only the Wizards, Trailblazers, Pistons, Spurs and Hornets offering higher payouts to win the NBA Championship.

The Jazz Sagarin Rating was coming in at 86.03, 7th worst in the league.  The Jazz were 6-11 Straight Up but 9-8 Against The Spread.

They currently would pay out $50,000 on a $100 bet.

"Center Walker Kessler came off the bench in his first two games back after missing 2½ weeks with an elbow injury, and he averaged 12.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in 23.5 minutes as the Jazz swept the Pelicans in a two-game series. Kessler, a first-team All-Rookie selection last season, will return to the starting lineup soon, but coach Will Hardy seems to be in no rush to make that change after fill-in starter Omer Yurtseven's 17-rebound and 13-point performance helped Utah put together a pair of wins." -- Tim MacMahon, ESPN.

"Utah may be missing Lauri Markkanen again but we’ve seen them get by the last couple of games without him as they have embraced a more team-oriented offensive concept. The Jazz have plenty of guys to lean on and the ability to do damage on the glass." - Winners and Whiners

Utah was coming into its game against the Memphis Grizzlies in a rough spot having gone 1-7 on the road up to this point.  The Jazz had lost seven of eight road games by no less than 8 points.  That game was against Denver and all the other losses were by double digits or more. Their only win on the road was versus the Grizzlies.
