The odds to win the 2017 Whitney Stakes had Keen Ice as the 3/1 favorite with Gun Runner coming in at 4/5.  Odds on this year’s Whitney Stakes Saratoga race are constantly being updated here.

Other early odds on the Whitney Stakes had War Story at 6/1 odds, Tu Brutus and Breaking Lucky both at 8/1 odds, Discreet Lover at 25/1 and Cautious Giant at 30/1.

Keen Ice will try to pull off another Saratoga shocker when he starts in the $1.25 million, Grade I Whitney Handicap.

"I think he is as good as he has ever been," said Todd Pletcher, who trains the 5-year-old son of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin.

There is some concern over the distance of the Whitney Stakes and whether Keen Ice can handle it.

The Whitney is 11/8 miles, not the ideal distance for Keen Ice. Keen Ice is a horse who does his best running late in the race. But Pletcher says the horse is doing as good as he has ever been.

"The one thing we do wish is that it was 11/4 miles," Pletcher said. "He ran real well in his last race; it's just a question of whether he will have enough time to get up going 11/8."

NYRA TV analysts break down the contenders for the 90th running of the Whitney Stakes.
