PGA Championship 2017 Betting Odds to Win: Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy Favorites
The PGA Championship 2017 betting odds had Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth as co-favorites at relatively long odds of just over 7/1.
Spieth closed with a 2-under 68 at Firestone Country Club over the weekend, playing alongside Matt Kuchar just two weeks after their memorable duel at Royal Birkdale.
“I had a chance to do something special today, but after nine holes that was done,” Spieth said. “It was kind of nice playing a little relaxed golf. But I do miss the heat of things, and that’s the goal is to get back in the heat by Saturday, Sunday next week.”
Spieth will likely see the most wagering action coming into the USPGA, which kicks off this Thursday August 10. Odds will be updated after each round of play and available for betting between rounds. Once bets are placed, the price will be locked in.
“I would say Rory’s probably the guy to beat at this point next week,” Spieth said. “I played with him the first two days, and the way that he is driving the golf ball, if he continues to do it there he just has a massive advantage over the field at that point.”
While Spieth appears at the top of his game, McIlroy’s Majors success remains in limbo.
“I feel like I’ve been going for a fifth major for a long time,” the 28-year-old Northern Irishman said on a conference call to promote the Dell Technologies Championship, which he won last year.
“I think it’s about time I stepped up and won one. I’m excited to go back to Quail Hollow. Quail Hollow is one of those courses that I’ve had a lot of success on in the past. I’ve played well there basically every time I’ve went.
“I’ve had a couple of wins in Charlotte and a few other top 10s. I’ve been beaten in a play-off once before, also. Obviously they’ve redone a couple of the holes and the layout is a little bit different, but I’m excited to get back.
“To turn up to major championships knowing that you have a chance to win and to already have a couple of Wanamaker trophies… it would be nice to make that a hat-trick.”
