- The Florida Derby winner has gone on to win the most Kentucky Derby races at 24. This year's Florida Derby winner was Forte, the odds-on favorite.
- Elwood (foaled 1901 in Missouri) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse that is best remembered for winning the 1904 Kentucky Derby and for being the first horse both bred and owned by a woman to win the Derby.
- The UAB Derby has never produced a Kentucky Derby winner. Derma Sotogake was the winner of this year's race.
- The largest margin of victory for a Kentucky Derby horse was Whirlaway, who ran a record-setting 1941 Kentucky Derby, winning by eight lengths (the largest margin in Derby history).
