Why Texas Does Not Regulate Horse Racing
A number of the horse betting websites are licensed in other states and do not want to risk having their licensed yanked per Texas' stance on horse racing bets on the Web.
TwinSpires.com was issued a subpoena in 2012 to stop accepting bets from those in Texas.
TwinSpires initiated a lawsuit on the basis that the amendment violated the Commerce Clause of the US Constitution.
The lawsuit was dismissed and TwinSpires stopped accepting wagers from Texans in 2013.
Texas is not the most gambling-friendly state but the tide could soon be changing.
In the meantime, you can still wager on sites that are licensed in international jurisdictions from Texas.
A Horse to Watch
Mage pays $150 on a $10 bet should he win the Kentucky Derby. Mage will start from the No. 8 spot, which has delivered nine winners in the Derby, second best in modern times.
Mage trainer G1 winner is Gustavo Delgado (3rd Kentucky Derby appearance), whose Paola Queen won the TEST stakes in 2016 at 45-1.
His jockey is among the best in the biz. Javier Castellano set a record for purse earnings in 2013 with $26,213,507.
He keeps improving with each race despite coming up short in both his Derby preps.
