It was a great year for Cincinnati sports fans as their long struggling Bengals finally made it to the Super Bowl, losing by a field goal to the LA Rams.  Then there were those dastardly Bearcats in college football that somehow made it all the way to the College Football Playoffs.

Oddsmakers at BetOnline have Cincinnati favored to win OVER 9 regular season games at -140.  They are long shots to win the College Football Playoff Championship (as much as 250-1), probably because of that game in Arkansas presenting a road block to getting in the Playoffs once again.

"We have one goal and a bunch of objectives every year. They're not going to change based on what the polls come out to be," said head coach Luke Fickell, who is entering his sixth season at the helm of the UC program. "But we'll use it. We kind of like to play from that position a little bit more. But I don't think it's something that we're going to talk about, disrespect or anything like that. It's just the reality.

"I think our guys are far enough along, and we've got enough of the leaders and the older guys that understand the realities behind whatever those things mean. It obviously can be motivating, and for me, for sure."

What to Know Before You Bet Cincinnati Bearcats Futures

  • Head coach Luke Fickell has assembled a very good team here but it will be asking a lot for the Bearcats to improve over last season.
  • On paper at least, Cincinnati looks almost guaranteed to win no fewer than 8 regular season games by default.
  • Houston and Memphis will NOT be on this season's schedule!  Houston is projected to be the 2022 AAC champion, for the record.
  • A game on the road against the Hogs is winable, but we would count that one in the LOSS category.
  • A win against Arkansas on the road, the Bearcats will likely be favored in all future games.
  • Gambling911.com also sees one loss in AAC play.
  • Despite losing key players from last season, Cincinnati is in the enviable position of having developed new talent.
  • The Bearcats have also had success on the recruitment front.
  • Cincinnati does return all five starters along the offensive line.
  • Out is two-time AAC Offensive Player of the Year Desmond Ridder, and in we have Eastern Michigan transfer and one-time Bearcat Ben Bryant as well as the highly touted recruit Evan Prater (both competiting for the starting QB position).
  • Bryant started 11 of 13 games for EMU, throwing for 3,121 yards and 14 TDs.
  • Prater saw limited action for the Bearcats but his playmaking ability is such that he's the likely candidate to replace Ridder, at least early on.
  • The backfield should remain strong even with the departure of star Jerome Ford.
  • Veterans Ryan Montgomery, Charles McClelland and Ethan Wright as well as sophomore Myles Montgomery will make for a very deep and talented backfield group.
  • An elite defense (16.9 points a game allowed in '21) returns just four starters, but, again, new talent waits in the wings.
  • The Bearcats were among the best in the nation in tackles for loss allowed.
  • Believe it or not, Cincinnati averaged over 36 points per game, but it only finished 58th in the nation in total offense last season.
