The USC Trojans are expected to win 9.5 regular season games in 2022, and are favored to do so.  Their odds of winning the College Football Playoff Championship were among the shortest this season, 5th and 20-1.

Head coach Lincoln Riley made it abundantly clear his expectations for the Trojans this season.   That means going to a national championship.

"I don't think (the expectations are) too much," said Riley. "I don't. I believe in what we're doing. I believe in what we're teaching. I believe in the people that we have in there."

"Not my place to say whether (the expectations are) fair or not. Like I said in my opening press conference, before even one of these players had come in, I mean, you don't come to USC and you don't come to Los Angeles to do things small. You got to set your sights big."

What to Know Before You Bet USC Trojans Futures

  • The Trojans were 4–8 last season and experienced a roster turnover greater than any in college football.
  • Granted they have a proven new head coach, top quarterback, and a likely first-team All-American and gamebreaker at receiver, but there are still many question marks surrounding this team.
  • Notre Dame would be a 15 point road favorite at USC based on last year's team power ratings.  It will take a lot to overcome to arrive at a line even remotely near EVEN if this game were not the last of the 2022 season.
  • Quarterback Caleb Williams is likely to be the difference maker.  He was ranked as the No. 2 QB for the 2022 season by PFF.com.
  • Williams (6'1/218) broke out with the Sooners in 2021, throwing for 1912-21-4 while rushing 79 times for 442 yards and six touchdowns.
  • Transfers Oregon's Travis Dye (fifth on the Ducks' career rushing list) and Stanford's Austin Jones (4.2 ypc) add to the improvements for this USC team.
  • Jordan Addison - '21 Biletnikoff Award winner - opted to transfer from Pitt to USC in May, bringing depth to the receiver position.
  • This team has all the hallmarks of a 10-plus win group and the schedule just isn't very intimidating until you arrive at the final two games of the season (at UCLA and vs. Notre Dame), outside of a game at Utah of course mid-season.   Assuming two of three are the only losses, the OVER 9.5 is doable.
