Tigers Set to Take on Giant Killers Princeton in 2nd Round

D'Moi Hodge scored 23 points along with his four steals Thursday as No. 7 seed Missouri defeated 10th-seeded Utah State 76-65 in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Men's College Basketball Tournament.

It's both a blessing and a curse perhaps that Mizzou will take on a No. 15 seed, Princeton, in the second round.

What a gift to get to play against a team that is this low a seed.  Then we look closer and see that Princeton beat No. 2 Arizona by four points and there is definitely a "gulp" factor.

Missouri opens as a -6.5 favorite here.

The Tigers are 11-7 against SEC opponents and 14-2 in non-conference play. Missouri ranks fourth in the SEC with 33.2 points per game in the paint led by Kobe Brown averaging 7.5.  Princeton ranked fifth in the Ivy League with 13.2 assists per game led by Tosan Evbuomwan averaging 4.7.

Nick Honor is averaging 7.9 points and 1.5 steals for the Missouri Tigers. Kobe Brown is averaging 15.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals over the past 10 games for Missouri.

The Tigers can only hope this was all a fluke that Princeton beat Arizona.

Mizzou currently pays $10,000 for every $100 bet to win the Tournament.

St. Louis Cardinals Open With 22-1 Odds to Win the World Series

The Cardinals signed pitcher Adam Wainwright to a one-year, $17.5 million deal as well as Guillermo Zuniga to a one-year, major league deal.

They also signed one of the best catchers in the league, Willson Contreras to a five-year, $87.5 million deal.

Though the Cardinals might not be juggernauts in the MLB this season, they play in one of the weaker divisions.  St. Louis will be competing for the division win with the Brewers, it is widely thought early on.

The Cards really didn't add much to the team during this off season but should remain competitive nonetheless.

They pay $2200 on a $100 bet to win the 2023 World Series.

Chiefs Still the Team to Beat in 2023-24

Reigning Super Bowl champs Kansas City open the season as a 6-1 favorite to win the 2024 Super Bowl.

The Chiefs in Mid-March announced they would be converting $12 million of Mahomes' 2023 roster bonus into a signing bonus, thus creating $9.6 million in cap space.

"The Chiefs have converted $12M of QB Patrick Mahomes’ 2023 roster bonus into a signing bonus, creating $9.6M in cap space, per source. More flexibility for the champs throughout free agency," said sports writer Field Yates.
