Houston Cougars

Coming into the tournament, Houston was ranking No. 2 in the nation only after Purdue.

ESPN.com had this to say about the Cougars:

"While the 30-point margin of Houston's win over Kansas is eye-opening, it also came completely within the Cougars' typical game plan. They like to win on the offensive glass and on the defensive end -- and they turned 13 offensive rebounds into 17 second-chance points and 18 turnovers into 30 points. According to ESPN Stats & Information, the 30 points off turnovers were the most by any team against Kansas since Long Beach State in 2011."

Early indications were that Houston would be facing off against UC Davis in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

The Cougars are no strangers to the Big Dance though they've never won a championship.  Could this be their year?

Baylor Bears

The Bears rank as the second best representatives of Texas entering March Madness and with odds that pay $3500 for every $100 bet to win the Championship.

From ESPN.com:

"Baylor faced big deficits in both games this past week. The Bears were able to overcome a 14-point margin against Texas on Monday, but after erasing Texas Tech's 16-point second-half lead on Saturday, the Red Raiders retook the lead and ran away with a 10-point win. One plus entering the postseason is Ja'Kobe Walter is averaging 15.9 points over his past nine games -- which came after a nine-game stretch in which he averaged 11.7 points on 29.7% shooting."

The Bears hadn't made the tournament for 20 years prior to 2008 and, from that point on, it was pretty normal for this school to end up there with 11 more appearances, one of which resulted in a championship.

Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns would be entering this year's tournament with relatively long odds that pay out $10,000 on a $100 bet should they go on to win it all.

Like Houston, the Longhorns are no strangers to March Madness but have yet to win a championship.

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
