The Houston Texans survived a crazy Wild Card Round Game against the Buffalo Bills to advance to the AFC Divisional Round. Houston will now travel to Kansas City to take on the number two seeded, Chiefs in this game. The Texans actually beat the Chiefs by a touchdown earlier this season, and Kansas City will be out for revenge in this game. Kansas City was also a little banged up in that game, but are now fully healthy.

The Chiefs won the AFC West Division again this season, and finished the regular season with a record of 12-4. Kansas City is no stranger to being in the NFL Playoffs, but they are hoping to finally reach the Super Bowl. Houston was the AFC South Division champion this season with a record of 10-6. The Texans earned a come from behind overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills to earn this date with the Chiefs. Kansas City is a whopping -9.5 point favorite over Houston in this game.

Defense Has Been Solid For Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are finally playing well on both sides of the ball, and their defense seems to be getting better with each game. Kansas City has 45 sacks on the season, and they won’t be afraid to blitz Deshaun Watson a ton in this game. The Chiefs just had a stretch where they allowed just six total points in two games, and their defense has taken a ton of pressure off of this explosive offense.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes missed some time due to injury this season, but he still managed to throw for over 4,000 yards. The Chiefs have a top-five passing attack, and they are averaging more than 28 points per game. Kansas City is averaging less than 100 rushing yards per game, and that could be a cause for concern in this matchup. The Chiefs will need some balance to keep the Texans off of Mahomes.

Texans Offense Will Look to Keep Up

The Houston Texans are going to try to outscore the Kansas City Chiefs in this game, and that could go horribly wrong. Quarterback Deshaun Watson has the ability to throw for over 300 yards in this game, but he also gets sacked more than any other quarterback in the league. Houston needs to run the ball if they want to win this game, and they did it well during the regular season. The Texans were a top-10 rushing team during the year, averaging over 125 yards per game.

Houston came into the season with a dominant defense, but injuries have really taken their toll. JJ Watt made his return to the lineup in the Wild Card Round, and the Texans will need him to get some pressure on Mahomes in this game. Houston has allowed over 25 points per game this season, and that’s not going to work well against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Texans will need to turn in one of their best defensive performances of the year.

Kansas City Cruises to AFC Championship Game

The Houston Texans don’t have the defense to slow down the Kansas City Chiefs in this game, and that is going to be a huge problem. Houston will try to get into a shootout with the Kansas City, and few teams have been able to beat the Chiefs when playing that style. The Texans should have some confidence after a nice comeback in the AFC Wild Card Round, but it’s going to take much more than confidence to win this game. Kansas City is a Super Bowl favorite for a reason, and their offense is going to reign supreme in this game. Bet the Kansas City Chiefs -9.5 over the Houston Texans to advance to the AFC Championship Game.  Take the Chiefs at RealBookies, our favorite pay per head bookie.
