Kansas lawmakers are considering legislation that would permit mobile sports betting statewide from state-licensed sportsbooks.

While the state can stake a claim on the Chiefs as the home of the third most populous city of the Kansas City metropolitan area (the more populous Kansas City is located in Missouri), Kansas is better known for its successful College Basketball teams.  We're talking the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas State Wildcats and Wichita Shockers.

SB 283 was filed last in early January, and is set for a hearing before the Federal and State Affairs Committee at 10:30 a.m. CST on Wednesday January 28. The bill was filed by the committee.

From Sports Handle:

The Kansas bill would allow for two “skins” or online brands per operator, and would legalize sports betting for “gaming facility managers” and potentially sports facilities, which are defined as “auto race track facilities or major multi-sport athletic complex(es),” which could include Kansas Speedway and Children’s Mercy Park, where Major League Soccer’s Sporting KC plays.

It's interesting to note that Kansas' neighbor Oklahoma has moved from being a gambling-friendly state to one where the Governor is calling for casino gambling to be deemed illegal.

Nebraska and Missouri lawmakers have filed bills that would permit sports betting, but neither measures appear to be gaining much momentum.
