Houston's sports betting market and demand for bookie software has accelerated with the wide acceptance of the activity in mainstream media, primarily during sporting events.  Texas has no intentions of legalizing sports betting any time soon and probably not in our lifetime.  The state's stance towards gambling in general is not very good.  This is mostly a result of its staunch conservative values.

Aside from the offshore books that are accessible from the state, Texas bookies currently monopolize the market.  And unlike their newly regulated competitors the likes of FanDuel and Draftkings in states such as New Jersey and Iowa, local bookies offer the ability to wager on credit.  This will never happen with the regulated sites.

This map shows searches originating from the Houston area over a sample hour leading to the Gambling911.com website.

"Find a Sportsbook Near Houston" is among one of the more commonly sought out search inquiries.

Another of these searches originating out of Cypress, Texas led to an article by our friends at AcePerHead.com, "The Advantages of Gambling Bookmaker Software"

There is good reason to want to be a bookie in the Houston area entering 2020.

The Astros are at 10-1 odds of winning the World Series (4th shortest odds).

The Rockets are at 10-1 odds of winning the NBA Championship (also 4th shortest odds).

And in the near term, the Texans are listed with 30-1 odds of winning the Super Bowl.

Outside of the notorioius Bob Angleton, law enforcement hasn't been especially aggressive against bookies operating in the region.

Angleton was one of the regions most successful bookmakers.  His business took in an estimated $20 million and $40 million of sports bets every year during the 90’s.  That number would likely be far greater today with the bookie software that is now available.

Though acquitted eventually be tried and acquitted in the 1997 murder of his wife Doris, it was tax evasion (not bookmaking per se) that landed Angleton in prison for seven years.
