A year ago this week, the Supreme Court struck down the federal law that banned sports gambling.

Legislators sponsored three bills this year to allow gambling on pro and college sports, along with the Olympics and other international contests such as soccer’s Champions League. None came close to approval.

HB 1975 would only have permitted sports betting at the state’s tribal casinos, excluding other businesses.

“We believe excluding these businesses from participating in sports wagering will offer an unfair advantage to those who can,” Zachary Lindahl, a lobbyist for the Washington Hospitality Association, told lawmakers at a committee meeting in February.

The Washington Horse Racing Commission voted to oppose the bill.

The Washington Horse Racing Commission voted to oppose the bill.  The Emerald Downs Racetrack & Casino in Auburn would have been excluded from HB 1975.

Gov. Jay Inslee, a Democrat running for president, has not taken a position on sports gambling, said spokeswoman Tara Lee.

“We hope that the Legislature would look to the Washington State (Gambling) Commission to provide its expertise about a regulatory structure for sports betting. And like all gambling in our state, it’s the governor’s responsibility, through the Commission, to protect the public by ensuring that gambling is legal and honest,” Lee said in an email.

Big Ten Conference Earns $759 Million in 2018

The latest federal tax return of the Big Ten Conference for the 2018 fiscal year showed it had a very good year financial-wise. In fact, it earned almost $759 million in the fiscal year. The figure surprised most sports news outlets. In addition, the amount is a 48 percent increase in year-over-year.

The federal tax return showed Big Ten Conference commissioner Jim Delany got more than $5.5 million for the 2017 fiscal year. That amount was a record for the conference according to news reports.

Most of the revenue came from new TV deals that took effect at the beginning of the 2017-18 school year. As a result, the 12 longest-standing members of the conference got around $54 million each. Rutgers and Maryland got a smaller revenue share. However, both schools got loans from the conference against their future shares.

Team Liquid Stun Invictus Gaming in the MSI 2019 Semifinals

Liquid continuously answered Invictus Gaming’s affinity for engages and outplayed them in teamfights. IG also kept making mistakes with their overaggression, even when a fight was lost. Liquid’s early game woes were almost non-existent in this series, too, and they flourished as a result.

The North American representatives now look ahead to the MSI finals where they’ll face off against either SK Telecom T1 or G2 Esports. Liquid look like one of the strongest teams to ever represent NA and they’re poised to bring home the region’s first international championship.  Read More at DoteSports
