Major League Baseball Top Exposures April 7: Astros

There is little if any real incentive for folks to place a bet on the Houston Astros with Gerrit Cole starting and a price of -260, yet the Astros are among the most wagered on sides this day.

The reigning World Series champs will face a San Diego Padres team that has thus far managed two wins on the season.

Despite the high price, upwards of 90% of the money line bets were coming in on Houston for this game.

Cole gave up a solo homer in the first inning Sunday and permitted only one more hit and three walks over his last six frames against the Texas Rangers, fanning 11 to get the win.

Cole enjoyed great success as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates in six career starts versus the Padres, going 4-2 with a 1.96 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings.

Padres RH Bryan Mitchell (0-1, 9.00 ERA)  lasted five innings in Monday's loss to the Colorado Rockies, surrendering five runs on eight hits and three walks while failing to record a strikeout.

The Padres are 3-12 in their last 15 overall.

A win by the Padres would be difficult to fathom under these circumstances.

Chris Paddack Player Prop Bets

Paddack recorded 10 strikeouts over seven shutout innings on Monday in a win over the White Sox. Prior to that start, Paddack was obliterated by the Orioles, allowing nine runs on 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Zach Eflin Player Prop Bets

Zach Eflin has great value in fantasy leagues for the April 26 game against the lowly Chicago White Sox.  Betting on Eflin and the Tampa Bay Rays might make sense if not for the -210 price tag.

Trevor Williams Player Prop Bets

The Nats Trevor Williams held the Astros to one run with four strikeouts across six innings in a no-decision on Saturday.  And the betting public was eating him up at a near 80% clip.
