Poker Site Owner DFS Critique: ‘Like Crack Dealer Warning About Fen Phen’

Many a daily fantasy sports player has taken issue with Americas Cardroom CEO Phil Nagy’s recent critique about the dangers of the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) sector.PokerFuse.com interviewed Nagy recently, who warned that many of these new daily fantasy sports websites will likely go under by year’s end and players wrongfully believe that most are regulated.  They are not.

Ex-Wife of Wynn Won’t Stay on Board of Wynn Resorts

LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) — Elaine Wynn failed Friday to win re-election to the board of Wynn Resort Ltd. — the casino-hotel company she co-founded with ex-husband Steve Wynn — a development that ended a feud over the issue.

Shareholders who had to decide between re-electing Elaine Wynn or agreeing with a company recommendation to re-elect two other sitting board members ultimately sided with the company.

FanDuel Gets Naming Rights on Floyd Mayweather Trunks

The world leader in daily fantasy sports, FanDuel.com, announced this week it has purchased the naming rights to none other than Floyd Mayweather’s trunks.  He will have them on full display during his highly anticipated May 2 bout with Manny Pacquiao.

As part of the deal FanDuel will award six tickets to the welterweight fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Goodell Addresses Daily Fantasy Sports, Gambling and the NFL

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the Associated Press Sports Editors group Friday on a number of topics, including daily fantasy sports and the role gambling may play in the National Football League (NFL).

In particular, Goodell referenced a number of sponsorship deals between individual NFL franchises (and other professional sports teams) with daily fantasy companies the likes of DraftKings and FanDuel.

William Hill Reports Record Weekly Loss in January

The United Kingdom’s biggest bookmaker revealed it lost £14m in January after a series of what it referred to as "customer-friendly" football results.

FanDuel Enters Into Deal With 15 NFL Teams

NEW YORK — (Associated Press) - Nearly half of the teams in the NFL have signed sponsorship deals with FanDuel, the daily fantasy sports website.

The announcement of 15 football teams on Wednesday adds to the roster of professional sports sponsorships for FanDuel. It already had a deal with the NBA, which received an ownership stake in the company, and seven pro basketball teams. Major League Baseball and the NHL have deals with a competitor, DraftKings.

Global Sports Betting Worth $3 Trillion, Most of it Illegal

(AFP) - The global sports betting market is worth up to $3-trillion, the vast majority of that generated by illegal gambling, a United Nations conference on crime being held in Doha heard on Wednesday.

Patrick Jay, a British-based independent betting expert, said around 65 per cent of that global figure was spent on football betting, with the Asian market the centre of sports gambling.

Louisiana Mulls Over Daily Fantasy Sports Legislation

Louisiana has become the latest state to consider a measure fully legalizing daily fantasy sports for real money.

While not explicitly illegal in Louisiana, State Representative Joseph Lopinto wants his bill to clarify that daily fantasy sports is not gambling.

“We’re not betting on the outcome of a game or a point spread. Fantasy football is a game of skill,” Lopinto said.

Connecticut Casinos Stand to Lose $570 Million

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The Native American tribes proposing to build new casinos in Connecticut released a report Monday that says new facilities in New York and Massachusetts, if left unchecked, will siphon away $570 million annually in gambling revenue.

The leaders of the Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation said they were not surprised by the forecast, but they hope the report they commissioned will help inform others including the governor, who has been noncommittal about his position on opening more casinos.

Trump Casinos Must Pay Fine for Allowing Underage Gamblers

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey — (Associated Press) - Trump Entertainment Resorts has been fined for not notifying the state about a patron who was assaulted at one of its casinos and has to hand over more than $2,600 won by underage gamblers.

The company is forfeiting $2,648 that Trump Plaza won by gamblers later found to be underage. The fines involved 22 players from December 2012 through May 2014. Trump Plaza closed Sept. 16, 2014.
