The Atlanta Falcons are favored to select a defensive line/edge as their first position in this year's NFL Draft.

Texas DL Byron Murphy a Sleeper for Falcons

NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah believes Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy shouldn't be ruled out for the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of the NFL Draft, according to Daniel Flick of the Falcon Report.

"It's a league that's placed an evermore premium on defensive tackles," Jeremiah said. "I was talking to a general manager this morning, and I said, 'When you look around the league and we ask, who are the true impact dominant defensive tackles, maybe seven or eight of them.'

"Edge rushers, it goes a lot deeper than that."

Alabama edge rusher Dallas Turner, Florida State defensive end Jared Verse and UCLA defensive end Laiatu Latu are also being looked at by Atlanta.

The Falcons may put off selecting an edge until the second day of the Draft.

“It can come at the top of the draft, it can come at the middle, it can come at the end of the draft,” general manager Terry Fontenot said. “Raheem showed that with the players they were able to draft in LA, and they had a lot of success with. So we have a lot of confidence in our scouting staff, and we're going to make sure we get the most of those players.”

While the defensive line / edge is favored, cornerback does have the better value paying $200 for every $100 bet.

The Falcons need to find cornerback A.J. Terrell a consistent running mate.

"We will add some more people to that (secondary) room, some young pieces, but what I've seen on tape, I've been excited," Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said last month at the Annual League Meeting. "I know it's an area of need for us so to speak, but those guys played pretty well last year when you go back and look at the tape."
