Florida Gators are a -73 Favorite in Their First Game

Here's a good bet:  Charleston Southern will beat the Florida Gators in their first College Football game of the 2009 season.  They won't necessarily win outright but in a perfect world they should be able to beat the Gators Against The Spread.  The line:  A whopping +73, which of course means that the Gators will need to beat Charleston Southern by 73 points in order for the bet to be a loser.

Sports By Brooks points out that the Gators have won by more than 73 before, but only ONCE:

"That came near the end of the Steve Spurrier Era in 1997, an 82-6 erasure of Central Michigan. Other than that, you'll have to go back a few more years for a 73-7 squeaker against then-hapless (and still hapless!) Kentucky back in 1994. They've played a generous amount of I-AA teams since then, but usually Florida calls off the dogs early enough to keep the margin respectable. And by that we mean in the 50s and 60s."

Good luck finding a line on this game that one can actually bet however. Online sportsbooks typically do not post odds on division I-A teams playing I-AA opponents.  You can look here and check the different online sportsbooks.
