Sports Tout Adam Meyer Sees Bail Revoked: Accused of Multi-Million Dollar Fraud

A Fort Lauderdale, Florida man charged with running an elaborate sports handicapping fraud scheme has had his bail revoked by a judge.

Adam Meyer, 43, was arrested last October for trying to extort $25 million from a Wisconsin businessman.

In February U.S. Magistrate Judge William Duffin elected not to revoke Meyer’s bail, instead ordering him into an intensive drug rehab program with minimal travel.  However, since that time the Florida sports tout has violated the conditions of the bail, including his appearance at a local casino Wednesday night.

"He blew it, he got kicked out." Judge Duffin said Thursday morning.

According to the indictment, Meyer told his Wisconsin client, Gary Sadoff, that he owed a debt to a ruthless bookie named Kent Wong and that Wong mistook the Wisconsin man for Meyer’s partner.

That ruthless bookie turned out to be Meyer himself.  The indictment alleges that Meyer would call Sadoff and threaten him into making further payments.

Each of the wire fraud counts and the extortion count carries a sentence of 20 years in prison.  Meyer also faces two counts of drug possession with intent to sell.

No trial date has been set for the defendant.
