Simon English of the London Evening Standard: "Here's the usual plot for the World Cup: England get hugely hyped by the press, fans and players before they go on to perform indifferently in all but one game, which they still contrive to lose. They crash out amid tears from everyone - except the betting industry, which tries hard not to cry with laughter."

NJ eyes Constitutional OK for Sports, Web Betting

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - (Associated Press) -  Convinced that Internet gambling is coming someday, New Jersey wants to be its epicenter.

Lawmakers want voters to decide this fall if the state should offer sports and Internet gambling in an attempt to make the state the nation's leader in an emerging betting industry and stop the slow death spiral of Atlantic City casinos and the state's racetracks. That's provided, of course, that a federal ban is repealed.

England Football Club Owner’s Son Has Near $1 Mil Gambling Debts

The son of a Top 4 England Premiership football club owner is a deadbeat, so claims intermediaries working on behalf of a Costa Rican-based online sportsbook looking to collect funds owed.

"He (the son) admits to owing but claims he's lost enough money in the past to the book that the debt should be forgiven," the intermediary, Charlie Bishop, tells Gambling911.com.  "He also says that the sportsbook slow paid him once but that's because this individual was a notorious slow payer in the past."

2014 Super Bowl in NJ Won’t Derail Sports Betting Efforts

New Jersey state lawmakers insist that the successful bid to land the 2014 Super Bowl in the state will not derail their efforts to bring legalized sports betting to NJ citizens.

State Senator Raymond Lesniak (D) said the Senate would vote next week on a measure to send the issue to a public referendum.

"I don't believe they frown on [gambling] publicly because the Denver Broncos are playing the San Francisco 49ers in October at Wembley Stadium, and people will be betting right across the street from the stadium," said Lesniak, referring to a preseason game in London.
