The Brazil Senate is set to vote December 7 on the legalization of Internet Gambling in South America’s largest nation.

Bill 186 encompasses a wide range of gambling framework that includes provisions for land-based and online casinos, bingo parlors and lottery games.  Sports betting provisions will also be voted on.  Assuming the bill passes the Senate, it will then head to the Brazilian Upper House for final approval.

Online gambling, including sports betting, is currently illegal in the country though very popular in the black market.  The nation has produced a number of top online poker players in recent years as well.

A regulated market could generate upwards of $17 billion a year, according to analysts.
